Shipping from China to Armenia by Sea , by road, by air

Although Armenia is a landlocked country, it cooperates with neighboring countries that have seaports to utilize their port resources in order to expand foreign trade. These ports play a vital role in Armenia's economic development. The following is a detailed introduction to the relevant ports:

Batumi Port
Location: Located on the Black Sea coast in southwestern Georgia, it is relatively close to Armenia. It is easily accessible from Armenia via convenient land transportation.

Throughput: In 2023, the port handled 50 million tons of cargo and 800,000 TEUs of containers.

Main Cargo Types: For Armenia, the main cargo transported includes various manufactured goods for export, such as machinery parts and electronic products, as well as energy resources such as oil and natural gas for import. It also handles the transport of agricultural products and food, ensuring the supply of the Armenian domestic market.

Poti Port
Location: Also located on the Black Sea coast of Georgia, it is one of Georgia's important maritime hubs and has close logistical links with Armenia.

Throughput: In 2023, cargo throughput was approximately 45 million tons, and container throughput was 750,000 TEUs.

Main types of transported cargo: Transporting large quantities of building materials for Armenia to meet domestic infrastructure construction needs. In trade, responsible for transporting import and export goods such as metal products and chemical products, promoting trade between Armenia and the international market.

Sea Freight from China to Armenia

Route 1 (recommended): China → Georgia Port of Poti/Batumi → Armenia

This is currently the most mainstream and stable choice, accounting for about 90% of freight volume.

Core advantages: Georgia has a stable situation and a good policy environment, which is suitable for goods with high safety requirements.

The entire processing time: about 32 - 50 days. The sea voyage takes about 30-35 days, and the land transfer takes about 2-5 days.

Total door-to-door time: approximately 45 - 60 days. If you include domestic pickup, customs declaration and customs clearance at the destination port, it is recommended to reserve at least 2 months.

Route 2 (alternative): China → Bandar Abbas Port, Iran → Armenia

This is a faster route, but you need to be aware of the regional situation.

Core advantage: fast delivery, the whole process takes about 30 days.

Potential risks: Affected by the current regional situation and some restrictive policies, the stability is not as good as the Georgia route

Main Transportation Modes and Transit Time

For different types of goods and time requirements, the main air freight options are as follows:

Dedicated Air Freight Line (Economical Choice): Transporting goods via airports such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and transiting through cities like Istanbul, Dubai, or Urumqi to Yerevan. This is currently the mainstream method for commercial freight. Although transit is required, cost control is relatively good. Transit time is generally 5-10 business days.

International Express (Fastest):Relying on the global networks of giants such as DHL, UPS, and FedEx, providing door-to-door service. Transit time is as fast as 3-5 business days, suitable for high-value or time-sensitive samples and small parcels.

Passenger Aircraft Belly Cargo (Direct Advantage):Utilizing the regular passenger flights from Urumqi to Yerevan operated by China Southern Airlines, cargo is carried in the belly cargo space of its aircraft. This is currently the only air route that does not require transit, especially suitable for goods originating from Xinjiang or for which transit is a concern.

Road Freight from China to Armenia

TIR Trucking Road Transport Detailed Explanation

This route is currently a star product for land transportation from China to Armenia, especially suitable for goods requiring both speed and security.

Route and Operation Process: Goods are collected from various locations in China (such as Shenzhen and Yiwu) and transported by truck to the Khorgos or Alashankou border crossings in Xinjiang. After customs clearance and TIR seal affixation, the trucks travel through Kazakhstan, cross the Caspian Sea (via roll-on/roll-off ferry), then through Azerbaijan or Georgia, finally arriving in major Armenia cities such as Yerevan, with nationwide delivery services provided.

Core Advantages: Throughout the process, customs authorities in each country along the route recognize the TIR seal, not the goods themselves. As long as the seal is intact, there is no need to open the container for inspection, greatly reducing the time spent at the border. Currently, some logistics companies offer a regular schedule of 5 trips per week to ensure stable transport capacity.
